For the vast majority of translators and interpreters, the end of their career is the milestone that marks the moment of deep contemplation, perhaps for the first time in years, of what will be their next steps in this wide world of job opportunities.<\/p>

In addition to deciding on the more apparent specialization that these studies entail, choosing the field of translation or interpreting, we should also be aware that a common misconception in this profession is that being a translator or interpreter gives us the right to translate any text or interpret any speech that is put before us.<\/p>

While it is true that texts and speeches of a more general nature can be done by almost any translator, the same cannot be said for more specialized texts and speeches, such as legal documents. In order to be able to provide our work with the necessary quality when facing this type of specialization, it will be necessary to know for sure what we are talking about and to know the subject in depth.<\/p>

How does a translator specialize?<\/strong><\/h3>

This is a very common question, especially among new translators and those who have just finished their studies.<\/p>

There are many ways to specialize. In some cases, there are translators who had already specialized before becoming translators, either because their university studies and knowledge were different from those of Translation and Interpreting, or because their careers were specialized in another field before they joined the profession. In this case, they draw their expertise from home<\/strong>: engineers, doctors, biologists, etc. Or it can also be the other way around: translators who have developed careers in other fields and return to work as translators after some time.<\/p>

In other cases, and one that is more widespread nowadays, specialization is achieved through training. <\/strong>One of the strengths of all translators, and what we are best known for, is our curiosity about the unknown. With this curiosity, we can study subjects that interest us, take courses and master’s degrees in areas we are unfamiliar with, or even spend hours researching a subject we are unfamiliar with. These are different ways of acquiring the necessary knowledge to specialize, as well as, of course, specialization through professional experience<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>

What do I specialize in?<\/strong><\/h3>

Often, the hardest part of specializing is knowing what you are going to specialize in. For this, it is advisable to ask yourself several questions such as \u00abWhat do I like?\u00bb, \u00abWhat do I excel at?\u00bb, \u00abWhat am I good at?\u00bb, \u00abWhat is there work in?\u00bb, \u00abWhat pays well?\u00bb, etc.<\/p>

Ultimately, the answers to all these variables must help us find our own balance: what we love or what we like to do, what we are good at or where we excel, etc.<\/p>

Everything can change, and therefore, it is advisable to ask ourselves these questions every time we have doubts or want to reorient our professional activity.<\/p>

Thus, it consists of a specialized Masters Degree within the translation sector and the field of law, and its goal is to provide new knowledge and enable graduates to be highly qualified to work as legal translators. We want the legal translator to be confident, competitive, comfortable with the document they are working with and knowledgeable in the field to ensure an accurate and precise translation.<\/p>
