The growing demand for professional translation services as part of the numerous economic exchanges that take place between companies has led to the current boom in \u00abfinancial translation\u00bb as a specialty in translation studies. In this respect, the so-called annual accounts<\/strong> are a paradigmatic example within the field of financial translation, and that is why we have decided to address their most significant characteristics.<\/p>

Financial translation as a specialized field<\/strong><\/h2>

However, before going fully into the analysis of annual accounts as financial documents, it is necessary to consider to what extent financial translation can be conceived as a specific area in the field of translation.<\/p>

So, when defining a specialized branch of translation, we must take into account the following criteria:<\/p>

  1. Its codification in the academic field allows it to be given its own treatment, something that is usually reflected in university curricula.<\/li>
  2. It is subject to growing interest from the linguistic research community.<\/li>
  3. It demands a larger number of qualified personnel as part of the labor market requirements.<\/li><\/ol>

    Certainly, as far as financial translation is concerned, it tends to fall within a broader field, that of \u00ablegal-economic translation\u00bb. However, if we take these criteria as a reference, there is no apparent reason to exclude a differentiated space for financial translation.<\/p>

    There’s no doubt that financial translation meets all these assumptions, although it is true that its presence in academic studies tends to be more established in post-university training (due in part to the complexity involved).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

    Criteria for defining a financial text<\/strong><\/h2>

    Specialized translation can be described according to, among other categorizations, intratextual or extratextual criteria. While the former focus on the thematic or functional aspects, the latter focus on features external to the text, such as the translator’s specialization, the purpose of the translation or the circumstances of the production process.<\/p>

    Focusing on the thematic area, some scholars propose a conceptual delimitation of finance based on the distinction between macrofinance<\/em>, mainly focused on the use of public authorities to frame and govern the activities of individuals, and microfinance<\/em>, from a private enterprise approach. In this sense, the translation of annual accounts should be part of the \u00abmicrofinance translation\u00bb (we will now see why).<\/p>

    Also, from a more stylistic perspective, we can highlight some characteristic features of financial texts:<\/p>
